These Terms are a binding agreement between you and Canvas Math. Please read them. They have not yet been reviewed by a licensed attorney; obtain that review before relying on them heavily. By signing in to or using Canvas Math, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
1. Acceptance and eligibility
By accessing or using Canvas Math (the “Service”) at canvasmath.com, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service (16 or older in the EEA/UK, or the applicable local digital-consent age where lower). The Service is a general-audience study tool and is not directed to children under 13. If you are under the applicable age, you may not use the Service. (See the Children’s Privacy section of the Privacy Policy. Note: an enforcing age screen is not yet built; your agreement to this eligibility requirement is your representation that you meet it.)
If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. Description of the Service, and the AI accuracy disclaimer
Canvas Math lets you write, type, and speak mathematics and have it transcribed, solved, explained, visualized, animated, and read aloud, using AI models operated by third-party providers.
AI output may be inaccurate or incomplete. You are responsible for verifying any result before relying on it. This matters especially for graded coursework, exams, and any academic context: you are solely responsible for complying with your institution’s academic-integrity rules. Canvas Math is a study and reasoning aid, not a substitute for your own work or judgment, and we make no warranty that any solution, explanation, or visualization is correct.
3. Accounts and Google sign-in
You sign in with Google. You are responsible for keeping your Google account secure and for all activity under your Canvas Math account. You agree that the information you provide (via Google) is accurate. We may suspend or terminate access that we reasonably believe is unauthorized, abusive, or in breach of these Terms.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- upload or enter other people’s personal or sensitive data, or any content you do not have the right to submit;
- enter content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you are not permitted to send to third-party AI providers;
- attempt to circumvent rate limits, quotas, or cost controls, or use automated means to scrape, overload, or abuse the Service or its AI endpoints;
- probe, attack, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users’ data, or our providers;
- use the Service to generate content that violates the acceptable-use policies of our AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI).
We apply per-IP and per-account rate limits and reserve the right to throttle, suspend, or terminate accounts that exceed reasonable use or that we reasonably believe are abusing the Service.
5. Your content and the license you grant
You own your content— the handwriting, notes, math, transcriptions, and prompts you create. We do not claim ownership of it.
To operate the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, process, transmit, and display your content solely to provide the Service to you — including routing it to our AI and infrastructure sub-processors (Anthropic, the max-proxy provider, OpenAI for narration, Neon, Vercel, Upstash, and Y-Sweet for collaboration) to deliver the features you invoke. This license exists only to run the Service and ends when your content is deleted, subject to the honest retention limits described in the Privacy Policy. We do not use your content to train AI models.
You are responsible for the legality of the content you submit.
6. Subscriptions, billing, credits, and refunds
Billing is not currently active. The Service is presently provided without charge while paid plans are in development. When paid subscriptions and credits launch:
- payments will be processed by Stripe; card details are entered on Stripe’s hosted checkout and never reach our servers;
- plan terms, prices, credit amounts, renewal, cancellation, and refund terms will be presented to you before you purchase, and will form part of these Terms at that time.
We do not promise any specific paid feature, price, or credit until it is actually offered. Nothing here is an offer to sell a subscription that is not yet live.
7. Intellectual property
The Service itself — its software, design, branding (“Canvas Math”), and content other than your content — is owned by Canvas Math or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable right to use the Service; they do not transfer any ownership in the Service to you.
8. Third-party services and AI providers
The Service depends on third-party providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Neon, Upstash, Vercel, Y-Sweet, and — when billing is live — Stripe). Your use of AI features is also subject to the providers’ own acceptable-use and terms, which flow down to you to the extent applicable. We do not control these providers and do not guarantee their availability, accuracy, or uptime. Features may change or be withdrawn as those dependencies change.
9. Disclaimers (“as is”)
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that AI output will be correct. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you, and nothing here limits rights that cannot be limited by law (including statutory consumer rights).
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CANVAS MATH WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE OR FROM RELIANCE ON ANY AI OUTPUT. To the extent we are found liable, our total aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD 100. Nothing in this section excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Canvas Math from claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms or of any law or third-party right — except to the extent the claim arises from our own breach or wrongdoing. This does not apply where prohibited by law (including in consumer contexts where such indemnities are not enforceable).
12. Termination and account deletion
You may stop using the Service at any time. You may request deletion of your account and data by emailing privacy@canvasmath.com (see the Privacy Policy, Section 11). Honest note: self-serve account deletion is not built yet; until it ships, deletion is handled manually, and “deleting” an individual note in the app today hides it rather than erasing the underlying content. We will hard-delete on request.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, abuse the Service, or where required by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law) survive.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Hampshire, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and you and Canvas Math submit to the courts located in New Hampshire for any dispute — except that this does not deprive you of any mandatory consumer protections or the right to bring proceedings in your home jurisdiction where the law of your residence guarantees that right. (This venue selection is a placeholder pending licensed-attorney review and should be confirmed before reliance.)
14. Changes to these Terms, and contact
We may update these Terms. For material changes we will update the date and version above and, where appropriate, notify you in-app or by email. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
